Section 51: Regulations for Landlords and Tenants in Uganda

51.Regulations

(1)The Minister may, by statutory instrument, make regulations generally for the better carrying into effect of the provisions of this Act.

(2)Without limiting the general effect of subsection (1), regulations made under this section may—

(a)prescribe codes of practice to be complied with by landlords and tenants;

(b)prescribe the forms to be used for purposes of this Act;

(c)regulate the use of agents in landlord tenant relations, including the licensing of agents, and the duties and responsibilities of agents;

(d)regulate mixed-use premises, including specifying the nature of businesses that may be carried out in premises which are also used for human habitation;

(e)prescribe penalties in respect of the contravention of the regulations not exceeding seven thousand two hundred currency points or imprisonment for a term of three years, or both;

(f)prescribe penalties for continuing and repeated offences; and

(g)prescribe fees for anything done under this Act.
