In a multiparty democracy, the government must ensure there is an official Leader of the Opposition in Parliament. This leader represents the political parties not in power and gives them a formal voice. Parliament will pass laws to decide how this leader is chosen and removed, as well as their duties, status, and any benefits or privileges they receive. This means citizens have a recognized opposition that can hold the government accountable.

Under the multi organisations or multiparty form of democracy, there shall be, in Parliament, a Leader of the Opposition.

how he or she is chosen and how he or she ceases to hold that office;

the benefits and privileges attached to his or her office.

Parliament shall, by law, prescribe the following in respect of the Leader of the Opposition—
