You have rights, but you cannot use them in a way that unfairly harms other people or the public interest. However, the government cannot hide behind 'public interest' to do wrong things like political persecution, holding someone without trial, or putting any unfair limit on your rights that goes beyond what is reasonable in a free and democratic society. Any restriction on your rights must be clearly allowed by the Constitution and must be justifiable.
